TouchlineAlpha ranks professional football managers using an ELO rating system built on two evidence signals: performance relative to betting market expectations, and points earned relative to squad value. All managers start with an ELO rating of 1500, the system’s performance baseline. This represents a manager performing in line with market expectations and squad value efficiency. Ratings update dynamically after every match.
ELO Rating
The manager’s current performance score. A rating of 1500 represents the baseline. Ratings above 1500 (green) indicate above-average performance, while ratings below 1500 (red) indicate below-average performance.

Overperformance Index (OI)
An ELO metric capturing how much a team exceeds market expectations, using betting odds as the benchmark for expected performance.
Budget Efficiency (BE)
An ELO metric based on points per squad value. Higher scores reflect better performance relative to the financial resources available.
Career Value
Measures the total impact a manager has had over their career. Higher scores represent both consistent high performance and the ability to sustain it over time.
